LEWIS COUNTY – Eight people, including first responders and a bystander, were all honored for their heroic efforts in saving a local family from a burning home in Lewis County earlier this spring.

According to breaking news from WWNY-TV, Dustin Groff received a Life Saving Award during a meeting of the Denmark Municipal Council on Monday evening.

Groff is known for grabbing ladders to help family members escape the burning house.

In addition, two Beaver Falls Firefighters, two West Carthage Fire Fighters, a State Trooper and two Sheriff’s Deputies all received the same honor.

The house is a total loss, but plans are reportedly underway to rebuild the home where the Buchal family has lived for more than 50 years.
