* The world’s largest direct benefit transfer scheme

This initiative is one of the world’s largest Direct Benefit Transfer programs, using digital platforms for transparent enrollment and transfer of welfare funds to farmers.

PM-KISAN has ended dependency on moneylenders and promoted sustainable agricultural practices.

By cutting out middlemen, the program ensures that fair support reaches all farmers, which is an important step towards agricultural empowerment and financial inclusion.

* Example of cooperative federalism

The scheme is a shining example of cooperative federalism as the states register and verify the eligibility of farmers, while the Center funds the scheme 100 per cent.

At least one in four beneficiaries is a woman farmer, while over 85 percent of small and marginal farmers are beneficiaries of the scheme.

* Technology for transparency

Under PM-KISAN, a farmer-centric digital infrastructure has been created to ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach all farmers across the country, without the need for middlemen.

The PM-KISAN portal is integrated with the portals of UIDAI, PFMS, NPCI and the Income Tax Department.

The States/UTs and all other stakeholders have joined the PM-KISAN platform to provide expeditious services to the farmers.

While farmers can register their complaints on PM-KISAN portal and take the help of 24×7 call facility for effective and timely resolution, the government has also developed ‘Kisan e-Mitra’ (a voice-based AI chatbot), which allows farmers to ask questions and have them resolved in real time in their own language.

The Kisan-e Mitra is now available in 11 languages ‚Äč‚Äčnamely English, Hindi, Odia, Tamil, Bangla, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada, Telugu and Marathi.

* Achievements and awards

With the release of the 17th installment, the total funds released to farmers under PM-Kisan will be over Rs 3.24 lakh crore.

Of this, Rs 1.75 lakh crore was transferred to eligible farmers during the Covid period, when they needed direct cash benefits the most.

Over the past five years, the program has achieved many milestones and has received critical acclaim from several organizations, including the World Bank, for its vision, scale and seamless transfer of funds directly to the accounts of eligible farmers.

A survey conducted by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) among farmers of Uttar Pradesh shows that the benefits under the PM-Kisan reached majority of the farmers and they received the full amount without any leakage.
